A Journey Through Jaipur: Celebrating Craftsmanship & Community

I recently returned from a long-overdue trip to Jaipur, India’s vibrant Pink City and the heart of where all our hand block printed garments are made. It was an incredible week immersed in local traditions, nurturing relationships with our amazing artisans, and discovering inspiring new suppliers as we continue to expand the horizons of our little brand.

Exploring the Printing District of Bagru.

One of the most enriching parts of our journey was visiting Bagru, a renowned printing district just outside Jaipur. Bagru is famed for its mud-resist, Dabu method of block printing—a centuries-old technique that embraces imperfection and authenticity. We had the privilege of participating in a block printing workshop, where skilled artisans demonstrated the intricate process of bringing patterns to life. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to try my hand at printing fabric for our striped trousers and gingham trousers .

Unlike modern, mechanized fashion that prioritizes speed and precision, hand block printing is a labour of love. The human touch in each piece creates a rustic charm that cannot be replicated by machines. It’s this natural beauty, complete with unique variations, that we so deeply cherish.

A break for lunch led us to enjoy a delightful samosa paired with a cup of scrumptious chai—a simple yet soul-satisfying moment amidst a day of creativity. The afternoon was spent experimenting with bold new shapes and fabrics for our upcoming designs. Trying my hand at printing reinforced my appreciation for the immense talent of our artisans. The skill, patience, and precision required make their work all the more remarkable.

More Than Just Clothing—A Commitment to Community

What we do extends far beyond creating garments; it’s about fostering meaningful connections and making a positive impact in the communities we work with. By visiting and working directly with these artisans, we not only ensure exceptional quality but also support the livelihoods of countless women who form the backbone of this unique garment-making industry.

Behind every exquisite piece lies the dedication of these women—many of whom are mothers, daughters, and sisters providing for their families while pursuing their craft. Through fair wages, safe working conditions we aim to empower these women to thrive, both within their craft and beyond. When you wear one of our garments, you are not just wearing fabric—you are wearing a story woven with love, passion, and the indomitable spirit of these artisans. Your support truly helps these women provide for their families and build better futures.

A Visit to the Amber Fort

Amidst our busy schedule, we took time to visit the stunning Amber Fort, perched on the edge of Jaipur’s hills. The fort, with its panoramic views across the valley, is an architectural masterpiece steeped in history. As we wandered through its regal halls and intricate courtyards, we were transported back to an era of grandeur and opulence. The well-preserved paintings and carvings serve as a beautiful reminder of Jaipur’s rich royal heritage.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Our Slow-Fashion Journey

The majority of our week was spent meeting our main suppliers and artisans along each stage of the production process. Inspiration from the trip has been distilled into an exciting array of new design ideas—seeds of creativity that will take at least nine months to bloom. This ancient process truly embodies the essence of slow fashion, where every piece tells a story of patience, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

Every corner of Jaipur speaks of artistry, culture, and a timeless way of life that captures your soul. We left with our hearts full, grateful for the opportunity to connect with the artisans who bring our designs to life, and inspired to continue celebrating their extraordinary talent through our work.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support allows us to keep these incredible traditions alive and empower the artisans who make it all possible.
